The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers Hits The Major Milestones
The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers both have reason to celebrate this past holiday weekend. Exactly no one was surprised when the two superheroes blockbusters became the hits of the summeer. About a month after their initial release dates DC’s The Dark Knight Rises and Marvel’s The Avengers are still wrecking it in. The final installment in Christopher Nolan’s beloved Batman Trilogy it trails its predecessor in both critical acclaim and domestic box office. But in terms of worldwide gross The Dark Knight Rises just sail past the Dark Knight in a billion dollar yard becoming only the 30th movie to meet the milestone The Dark Knight Rises has surpassed one billion dollars in worldwide box office and now sits in the all time twelfth high spot with 1.005 billion just ahead of the Dark Knight 1.003 billion and it’s only a month and a half in the theatrical run so eleven you better watch out.
Meanwhile back at the Marvel’s headquarters Disney planned a special push, four months after it originally hit the theatres. The movie played on 1700 American screens over the holiday bringing its total revenue to a total revenue to a warping 1.501 billion dollars. The Avengers was already sitting pretty in third place of worldwide box office but now joins Avatar and Titanic of one of only three movies to reach the 1.5 billion mark. Director Joss Whedon has certainly earned himself a pat on the back.
